What to do in Wichita this weekend: Country music, guitar music and a WAM last chance

It’s Memorial Day weekend, and those not headed out of town or to the lake will be looking for things to do in town. They’ll find museum exhibits, concerts and fun outdoor activities.

Here’s a list of some of the activities happening around Wichita this weekend and into next week.

Last Chance for ‘Art Deco’

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Blvd.

Memorial Day weekend marks Wichita’s last chance to visit the Wichita Art Museum’s exhibit “American Art Deco: Designing for the People” before it departs for the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City. The exhibit, which originally opened in February, includes more than 140 pieces that represent the popular architecture and design movement from the 1920s and 1930s. People can still visit from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission on Friday and Sunday is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors 60 years and older, $3 for college students with an ID and youth ages 5 to 17, and free for children under 5. On Saturday, admission to the exhibit is $5 for adults and seniors and free for college students and youth. Wichita Art Museum members also get in free.

Beatles vs. Stones

7 p.m. Friday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway

Wichita’s Orpheum Theatre will have two of the most iconic bands of all time go head-to-head in a show called “Beatles vs. Stones,” which will feature Beatles tribute band Abbey Road and Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction facing off in a musical showdown. The show will include a string quartet of students from Northeast Magnet High School, who will sit in for songs like “Hey Jude,” “Ruby Tuesday,” and more. The showdown will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday. Tickets range from $29-$69 and are available at selectaseat.com, by calling 316-755-SEAT or in person at the Select-a-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.

Antique flea market

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Paramount Marketplace, 6297 E. 13th St.

The Paramount Marketplace at 13th and Woodlawn is putting on a special outdoor vintage market in its parking lot on Saturday that will include around 60 vendors offering vintage goods, collectibles, clothing, jewelry, food and more. The flea market lasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but the store is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Everything inside will be 10 percent off. Admission is free.

Lawrence and Walker in concert

8 p.m. Saturday, The Cotillion, 11120 W. Kellogg

Country stars Tracy Lawrence and Clay Walker will come together in Wichita this weekend to perform on the same stage with a full band. Their dual show will start at 8 p.m. on Saturday at The Cotillion. Lawrence is best known for hit songs like “Time Marches On” and “Paint Me A Birmingham,” while Walker’s most popular songs include “She Won’t Be Lonely Long” and “If I Could Make a Living.” Tickets range from $45 to $125 and can be purchased at thecotillion.com.

Corey Kent at Wave

8 p.m. Thursday, Wave, 650 E. Second St.

Country singer Corey Kent, a former contestant on “The Voice” who is best known for hit songs “Wild as Her” and “Ain’t My Day,” will be in Wichita for a concert on Thursday. The show starts at 8 p.m. at Wave. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at waveict.com

Community Play Day

5 p.m. to sunset Friday, Chainlink Gallery Place, 121 E. Douglas

Chainlink Gallery Place in downtown Wichita is hosting a Community Play Day on Friday that will feature tie dye activities, bubbles and a mural wall that participants can throw paint balloons at. Food and juice carts will also be out. The event lasts from 5 p.m. to sunset on Friday at Chainlink Gallery Place, which is on the site of the former ICT Pop-Up Urban Park. Admission is free.

Pavlo in concert

8 p.m. Friday, Crown Uptown Theatre, 3207 E. Douglas

Pavlo — a musician described as a “world music artist” — will be in Wichita on Friday for a show called “A Night with Pavlo.” The artist, who just finished his PBS special “Live in Santorini,” will perform a blend of Spanish, Greek, Rumba and Flamenco music on his Mediterranean guitar. The show is at 8 p.m. at the Crown Uptown Theatre. Tickets are $35 and must be reserved at crownuptown.com.
