What to do in Wichita this weekend: Visit alpacas, see a rodeo, catch a concert

You can see alpacas outside and horses inside in Wichita this weekend. And live music also will be easy to find.

Here’s a list of some of the fun things happening in Wichita over the fourth weekend in January 2022.

PRCA Rodeo

7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Hartman Arena, 8151 N. Hartman Arena Drive, Park City

The fifth annual PRCA Championship Rodeo at Hartman Arena happens Friday and Saturday at the Park City venue and will feature more than 230 professional riders from 22 states and four countries. The cowboys and cowgirls will be competing in bareback riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, bull riding and more, and each will be trying for a spot at the Wrangler National Finals in Las Vegas. The action will begin at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Tickets are $25, $35 and $45 in advance at the Hartman Arena Box Office, at ticketmaster.com or by phone at 316-744-8880. Ticket prices will increase by $5 the day of the event. Ages 2 to 12 get in free with a paid adult on Friday.

Art and Alpacas

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Blvd.

The Wichita Art Museum is putting on another Family ArtVenture this weekend, and this one will feature alpacas. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the museum and will have a “Dream Weaver” theme. Alpacas from Flatland Ranch will be on site, and weaving demonstrations by the Wichita Weavers, Spinners and Dyers Guild will take place. The day will also include opportunities for visitors to create art. The food truck Funky Monkey Munchies will be serving food. Admission is free, and masks are required indoors.

Red dirt concert

8 p.m. Friday, The Cotillion, 11120 W Kellogg

Texas country music artist Wade Bowen, best known for Red Dirt hits like “Solid Ground” and “Watch This,” will perform an 8 p.m. show on Friday at The Cotillion. Doors open at 7 p.m., and tickets are $20 at thecotillion.com.

Live music food drive

7 p.m. Saturday, Wave, 650 E. Second St.

The Wave venue in Wichita will be the site of The Give Back Food Drive concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, which will feature performances by acts like Zone Ender, The Travel Guide, Bahiyah, Marrice Anthony and more. Doors for the show open at 5 p.m., and all ages are welcome. The show is sponsored by Paxton’s Blessing Box and will be on the venue’s indoor stage. Relive the ’80s

8 p.m. Saturday, Cotillion, 11120 W. Kellogg

Relive rock of the 1980s at the Cotillion on Saturday with Paramount, a 1980s tribute band that performs hits by groups like Journey, REO Speedwagon, Def Leppard, Poison, Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses and more. The show starts at 8 p.m. and doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 at thecotillion.com.

Mini Used Book Sale

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Wichita Art Museum, 1300 W. Museum Blvd.

The Friends of The Wichita Art Museum’s Mini Used Book Sale returns on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum. Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring money to buy from a curated selection of titles on art, zoology and more. Proceeds support the museum.
