Wicked rude? Bostonians react to New York City campaign that ‘disses’ Boston

The city that never sleeps, New York, has a brand new ad campaign to promote the city’s spirit 24 hours a day.

In the campaign there is a shot at Boston according to some people who have seen it. One message seen on digital billboards in New York City reads, “we do more before 8 am than Boston does all day.”

As you can imagine, that is not sitting well with locals.

“They got a lot happening, got a lot happening here. (Isn’t it kind of rude?) Of course. that’s New York,” joked one man. “We are always running. This is our only downtime between classes,” said a college student.

Debbie Saslaw, who lives in New York, posted a photo of the ad campaign on social media. Saslaw told Boston 25 she has never lived in Boston but she saw the ad on her way to a Dunks.

The ‘We Love NYC’ campaign reportedly is aimed at showcasing how the city gets things done 24 hours a day. Bostonians told us New York and Boston will always have a rivalry.

That rivalry, as we all know, is rooted in the Red Sox and Yankees. Ironically, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu was at Fenway Park for a pre-opening day tour so we asked her about the ad. “If there is anything that Bostonians are good at is not caring what New Yorkers feel about us,” said Wu.

The Mayor did not seem offended by the ad but she did make it clear her city gets plenty done. “We do what we do, we win, we save lives, we save the planet and we do that 24 hours a day,” said Wu.

Boston 25 did reach out to the creator of the campaign but have not been able to get a comment about the specific reference to Boston.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
