Wickliffe bowler Tony Throckmorton wins D-II boys district championship

Feb. 25—Wickliffe's Tony Throckmorton posted three solid games en route to winning individual medalist honors Feb. 24 at the Division II boys district tournament at Stonehedge Lanes in Cuyahoga Falls.

The senior emerged from a close race to grab the top individual honor at the tournament and earned a spot at the D-II state tournament.

Throckmorton had a 207 in Game 1, then got better in his final two games with a 236 and 224 for a 667 to edged runner-up Brennan Baber (658) of Struthers. He was the lone area individual on the boys side to qualify for state.

As a team, Wickliffe was eighth in the team standings with 3,556. The top four team advanced to state.

On the girls side Feb. 25 at Stonehedge Lanes, Faiport earned a D-II state tournament spot with a second-place finish to district champ Triway. The Skippers had a score of 3,426 to Triway's 3,841.

Sophomore Jillian Justinger was Fairport's top performer, and she finished third with a 597 series. Justinger had games of 198, 193 and 206. The Skippers' other top bowlers were Beyla Sadler (16th with a 509) and Mackenzie Pilny (19th with a 506).

Wickliffe's top bowler was junior Katrina Erich-Lukans, who was 12th with a 529. Her series included a 202 game.

The Wickliffe girls were eighth in the team standings with 3,125. The top four teams advanced to state.

The D-II boys state tournament is set for March 4 at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl in Columbus. The girls D-II state tournament will be held March 3.
