Xfinity service restored in Indianapolis after widespread outage

Update: Internet service has been restored, Comcast's Xfinity said around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

"Earlier, some customers experienced intermittent service disruptions as a result of a network issue," Xfinity Support tweeted. "We have addressed the issue and service is now restoring for impacted customers, as we continue to investigate the root cause. We apologize to those who were affected."

The issue could last into the afternoon, according to the Xfinity website.

When visiting Xfinity's Status Center and logging into your account, you may see a message stating that the issue will be resolved about 12:40 p.m., depending on your area. You can also sign up to receive updates via text message.

"We're working hard to get your service up and running," the website says. Xfinity did not immediately respond to IndyStar's request for comment.

The main surge began around 8:45 a.m., according to Downdetector, which records internet outages using social media and submitted tips. The website reported more than 53,000 Xfinity outages around that time Tuesday, while also reporting another big spike around 1 a.m., when more than 26,000 outages were reported.

Other Xfinity outages have been reported across the country, including Illinois, California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
