UPDATE: Wilburton man victim of fatal Butler Twp. crash

Mar. 3—FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — The Schuylkill County Coroner's Office has identified the man who died when the car he was driving collided head-on with a pickup truck in Butler Twp. Friday morning.

Deputy Coroner Andrew Szczyglak, Shenandoah, said he pronounced Frank Gronski, 65, of Wilburton, dead at the scene at 7:50 a.m.

The crash happened in the area of 622 Fountain St., Route 61, around 7 a.m.

Butler Twp. police are investigating but had not provided any details as of late Friday morning.

Emergency personnel at the scene said that Gronski appeared to be driving south and the pickup was traveling north.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by firefighters. The driver of the pickup truck was taken by ambulance to the site of the former Ashland hospital, from where he was flown to a trauma center.

The crash closed both lanes of Route 61 for several hours while a state police accident reconstruction team worked with township police to investigate.
