Wild place Jonas Brodin on injured reserve
Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin has been playing through a lower-body injury for much of the past couple of weeks.
Now, the team is giving him a chance to get right.
On Thursday morning, hours before the Wild played the Columbus Blue Jackets on the road, the Wild officially placed Brodin on injured reserve.
Though it’s still unclear how long Brodin will be sidelined, according to NHL rules, he must miss at least seven days while on IR. That means he will miss the next four games at a minimum.
The loss is a major blow to the Wild, who are currently locked in a tight playoff race. His defensive prowess makes up for a lot of weaknesses.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Wild recalled defenseman Dakota Mermis from AHL Iowa under emergency conditions. Mermis, 29, leads Iowa defensemen in goals (15) and ranks second in scoring (24 points) and assists (19). He has collected four points (1-3—4) and a plus-8 rating in 25 career NHL games with Arizona (2017-19), New Jersey (2019-20) and Minnesota (2020-22).
Mermis and Calen Addison will slot into the lineup on the blue line against the Blue Jackets. They are both playing because Jon Merrill is not on the current road trip as he recovers from an illness.
