Wildfire north of Indio burns 4 acres of palm trees, is contained with no threat to homes
A wildfire that started Monday in the hills on the north side of Indio burned four acres of palm trees, but posed no threat to homes and was contained, according to Cal Fire.
The agency described the fire as being in "an isolated oasis area" east of the intersection of Washington Street and Coyote Song Way. It began burning at around 11:20 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters stayed on the scene overnight monitoring the fire, and an engine remained there Tuesday afternoon in case of any further hotspots, Cal Fire spokesperson Maggie Cline De La Rosa said.
It was the second to start in the palm oasis north of Indio in recent days. Another fire burned about 36 acres of palm trees in the Biskra Palms area last week.
