Wildfire and smoke map: Track latest wildfires and stay informed on smoke conditions

Smoke from Canada's raging wildfires will be returning to New York state, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality health advisory to midnight Monday. The advisory comes as air quality levels in the Rochester region are expected to exceed an Air Quality Index, or AQI, value of 151 for fine particulates.

Fine-particle pollution — known as “PM 2.5” — is what’s being measured. The tiny particles are small enough to get past airway defenses and cause breathing problems.
