UPDATE: Wildfire at Tiger Bay State Forest grows slightly to 1,866 acres, 85% contained

Crews continue to battle a wildfire near Tiger Bay State Forest that started over the weekend. As of Monday night, it had grown from 180 to 1,866 acres, and smoke is expected to continue to affect roadways near Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach, Florida Forest Service officials said.

"We are still out here improving containment lines and watching for spot overs," the forest service said in a Facebook post.

A second much smaller wildfire at 111 acres was 100 percent contained Monday night.

The forest service reported it had nine bulldozers working to cut and improve containment lines around the fire.

The fire started on Saturday and was 180 acres but grew to 500 acres Sunday afternoon near the Bennett Group Camp on Bennett Field Road prompting the evacuation of 10 people.

Later in the day Sunday as the fire extended to 750 acres, officials closed the Tiger Bay State Forest to visitors.

Motorists in the area near the wildfire are advised to exercise caution as smoke will impact roadways and communities. Drivers are asked to slow down and drive with caution, officials said.

The forest service also announced road closures.

"For the safety of our wildland firefighters, we are closing Rima Ridge Road on Tiger Bay State Forest from SR 40 south to Indian Lake Road. We will advise when the road is back open."

Low humidity, gusty winds, and a lack of rain are to blame for the high fire danger.
