Will Spider-Man appear in Marvel’s Netflix television shows?

Rumours are flying out thick and fast about Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming film but what I really want to know is whether or not everyone’s Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man will be hitting the small-screen?

Geographically it makes sense, Spider-Man lives in New York and alongside Daredevil they practically micromanage the same small area whilst the Avengers are off battling end-of-the-world scenarios. Spidey and Daredevil are also pretty familiar with each other in the comics so there’s a literary precedent there.

That being said, how realistic is it that we’re going to see a classic scene that Spider-Man dressing up as Daredevil so that Matt Murdock can represent him in court and not reveal his secret identity, given that Spidey is making his debut on the big screen next year and as of yet Marvel television and Marvel film have yet to really give crossing over a good go.

Well, The Defenders is the culmination of all of these solo hero series that we’re seeing on Netflix, with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist teaming up to take on a villain worthy of the four of them. Currently the rumours are suggesting that villain will be none-other than the devil himself Mephisto, a demon.

Fans of the Spider-Man comics will be shuddering at the mention of Mephisto as he is responsible for one of the more controversial moments in Spider-Man’s narrative history, erasing Spidey’s memory of his marriage to Mary Jane in order to bring Aunt May back to life.

So as you can see the fact that Marvel TV are on the verge of introducing a villain who has arguably had the biggest effect on Spider-Man in paper could suggest that they’re leaning towards at least letting the Webhead make a cameo.

Not to mention the fact that Spider-Man and existing on-screen Daredevil tour-de-force Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin played by the enigmatic Vincent D’onofrio share an extensive history also. This means there’s at least one confirmed villain that Spidey cold tangle with.

Then there’s the fact that several casting decisions such as Donald Glover and Abraham Attah are leading to speculation that we could see alternate universe Spider-Man Miles Morales making an appearance in the film. If this does happen the fact that there are more than one Spidey will surely open things up in terms of either of them appearing in other things.

Honestly, I’ve no idea if we’ll Spider-Man on Marvel Television as the relationship between the TV and film side of the comic giant is frosty at best, with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D only slightly referencing events in the films. However it has become more and more of a possibility as time goes on. We shall have to wait and see
