Willard's Dawson is All-Ohio second team

Mar. 23—COLUMBUS — After one of the best single-seasons in the illustrious history of Willard basketball, junior Max Dawson was voted one of the top players in the state.

After leading Willard to an outright league championship, Dawson. was selected to the All-Ohio second team in Division II on Thursday, the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association announced.

A junior guard, Dawson averaged 25.3 points per game this season for the Crimson Flashes, who finished 15-9 overall and 9-1 in the SBC Bay Division.

Dawson was 220-of-436 (51 percent) from the field this season, including 152-of-261 (58 percent) on two-point shots and 68-of-175 (39 percent) on three-pointers. He was also 96-of-120 (80 percent) from the free-throw line.

With 606 points this season, Dawson as the third-most points in a single-season in Willard history behind only Jimmy Langhurst (807, 2006) and Nick Dials (676, 2003). The point total is also the most points scored in a season by a junior at Willard, while the 25.3 average is the sixth-best in program history.

Dawson is at 1,216 career points, which is also the third-most points through three seasons behind Dials (1,488) and Langhurst (1,393). In career scoring, Dawson is fifth all-time behind Langhurst (2,199), Dials (2,180), Nolan Robinson (1,644) and Mike Buurma (1,468).

Also in Div. II, Player of the Year honors went to Dayton Chaminade Julienne senior George Washington III.

The senior averaged 25.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and three assists per game while leading the Eagles to the state semifinals. The University of Michigan recruit finished with the highest scoring average in the Greater Catholic League since the 1991-92 season.

Coach of the Year honors went to Tony Bisutti of Columbus Bishop Ready. The Silver Knights won a program record 28 straight gams to reach the state semifinals. In that span, they outscored opponents by an average score of 60-40, allowing just one team to reach 50 points.
