Actor and motivational speaker Kirk Cameron will be sharing some spiritual food with guests at William Carey University's annual scholarship dinner and fundraiser.

The television and film star is host of “Takeaways with Kirk Cameron” and “One on One with Kirk Cameron” on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

He starred in “Fireproof,” a 2008 Christian drama about a troubled marriage that became the No. 1 inspirational movie of the year and inspired the bestselling book, “The Love Dare” by Alex Kendrick and Stephen Kendrick. Other movies featuring Cameron include “Left Behind” and “Monumental.”

“People remember him as Mike Seaver in the 1980s sitcom ‘Growing Pains,’" WCU Director of Advancement Karen Golson said in a news release. "Since then, he’s invested his time and energy into faith- and family-based films and television shows — and hundreds of live events focused on marriage, family and parenting.”

Cameron has authored several books, including the autobiographical "Still Growing," and such children's books as "As You Grow" and "Pride Comes Before the Fall."

According to his biography, Cameron and his wife, Chelsea, have been married for 31 years and have six children. The couple hosts Camp Firefly, an all-expenses-paid summer camp for terminally ill children and their families.

More recently, Cameron produced “Lifemark,” a film about adoption and the value of life in the womb. He’s also been featured on national news shows talking about his “American Campfire Revival,” which urges people to return to the principles that will bring blessing and protection to America.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at Lake Terrace Convention Center. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The event also will feature the Carey Worship Choir and Band. Money raised from the fundraiser will benefit students through the university's scholarship program.

Tickets are $150 per person, available at wcuscholarshipdinner.ticketleap.com/william-carey-university-scholarship-dinner-23/
