William & Mary’s Ben Williamson, selected in the second round, is Tribe’s highest MLB pick in nearly 20 years

William & Mary third baseman Ben Williamson became the school’s highest major league baseball draft pick late Sunday when he was selected in the second round (57th overall) by the Atlanta Braves.

Williamson, a senior from Freedom High in Chantilly, was the CAA Player of the Year after leading the league with a .390 batting average this season. He ranked first in the CAA with a .513 on-base percentage, and his 82 hits and 57 runs scored were the most by a Tribe player since 2014.

Virginia catcher Kyle Teel was the state’s highest draft pick, selected in the first round with the 14th overall pick by the Boston Red Sox.

First baseman/pitcher Bryce Eldridge of James Madison High in Vienna was the 16th overall pick by the San Francisco Giants. The 6-7 right-hander is considered the top two-way prospect in this draft class.
