A Williams Township trustee has been appointed to represent District 2 on the Sangamon County Board, Chairman Andy Van Meter announced Wednesday.

Casey Constant, a mortgage loan officer for AnnieMac, will fill the seat left vacant with the retirement of Todd Smith, who served on the board for 16 years.

Constant didn't immedately return a message seeking comment.

No candidate from either party has filed to run in District 2, which includes portions of Fancy Creek and Williams Township. The primary election is June 28 with the general election Nov. 8.

Constant's appointment was approved unanimously at Tuesday's county board meeting.

Constant was the downstate director for Citizens for Rauner Inc., the election campaign for Gov. Bruce Rauner, in 2014 and 2018.

Constant worked as the downstate manager in intergovernmental affairs for the Rauner administration from 2015 to 2016. He was involved with an election campaign for 95th District Rep. Avery Bourne, R-Morrisonville.

Constant started in state government as a communications specialist for the Illinois State Treasurer's Office.

He is a graduate of Illinois State University and lives in rural Williamsville with his wife, Lakota, and their two sons.

Smith retired from the board in May to focus on his commercial real estate business.
