Williamsville, Hillsboro and Lincoln basketball: Who was the athlete of the week?

Sacred Heart-Griffin girls basketball player Cheresse Mitchell won the State Journal Register's athlete of the week.

Mitchell earned 45 percent of the 27,613 votes, beating out Hillsboro boys basketball player Drake Vogel (25 percent). Full results are below.

Mitchell, a junior forward, totaled 11 points and seven rebounds and hit the game-winning 3-pointer with two seconds remaining in the Cyclones' 47-46 victory over Springfield High at the Bank of Springfield Center on Saturday. She also won last week's contest.

Will Turk, Chatham Glenwood, boys swimming

The senior won the 50-yard freestyle (22.46 seconds) and 100 IM (54.58) at the Hope Invite in Edwardsville on Monday. He anchored two relays — the winning 200 freestyle relay and the second-place 100 free relay for the Titans. On Tuesday, Turk won the 200 freestyle and 500 free and anchored two winning relays in a triangular meet for first-place Glenwood in Charleston.

Lleyton Turk, Chatham Glenwood, boys swimming

The junior was a winner in the 50-yard breaststroke (28.82) at the Hope Invite in Edwardsville on Monday. He swam the third leg on the first-place 200 freestyle relay and started the second-place 100 free relay. Lleyton Turk capped off wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke while swimming on a pair of winning relays for Glenwood at Charleston in a triangular meet on Tuesday.

Joshua Morton, Springfield High, boys swimming

The senior won the 100-yard freestyle in 50.06 seconds at a quadrangular meet at Edwardsville on Saturday. Morton placed second in the 50 breaststroke and third in the 100 IM at the Hope Invite on Monday. He also swam on two second-place relays for the Senators.

Maddie Roberts, Williamsville, girls basketball

The senior guard registered all of her nine points in the fourth quarter to preserve a 43-31 victory over Pleasant Plains in the Sangamon County tournament championship game. She also won the County's Don Hartlaub Outstanding Player Award.

The junior forward made 7 of 8 shots, went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line and scored a game-high 19 points to go with a game-best eight rebounds in Thursday's 55-53 Apollo Conference win over Mount Zion.

Drake Vogel, Hillsboro, boys basketball

The senior guard posted 21 points in Thursday's 65-59 overtime victory over Greenville in the Rich McGraw Memorial Invitational. He had six points in overtime. He earlier surpassed 1,000 career points in Wednesday's 76-30 win over Ramsey.
