Willis inducted into IN Military Veterans Hall of Fame

COL W.G. (Bill) Willis, U.S. Army (Ret) has been inducted into the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame in ceremonies held at Indianapolis on Nov. 5.

Willis, owner of the local WFLQ radio station, is among eight Hoosier Army veterans in the Class of 2021, including Indiana Adjutant General Roger Lyles of Salem.

During his 30-year career as an officer in the Army National Guard, the U.S. Army Reserve and on active duty, Willis served as Rifle Company and Cavalry Squadron Commander, and as a Staff Officer in two different Four-Star Headquarters. He was an action officer at the Pentagon at HQ, Dept. of the Army and in the Office of Secretary of Defense.

Willis is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College and a member of the Ft. Benning OCS Hall of Fame. He was cited for his civic service since military retirement, including the founding of Liberty Day Indiana. The state-wide program provides copies of the United States Constitution and presentations to eighth and 11th grade students. A Lions Club Past District Governor, he expanded the program through Indiana Lions Clubs since 2001.

The veteran continues his community service as president of the French Lick-West Baden Lions Club and president of the Orange County Gideons.

Willis has been married to his wife Catherine for 57 years, and they have a son, Gerald, daughter-in-law Joleen, two grandchildren and a grand dog.
