Willmar woman shot, Morton man arrested following Monday night domestic dispute in casino parking lot near Granite Falls

Mar. 16—GRANITE FALLS — A Morton man has been arrested for shooting a woman during a domestic dispute that began around 11:15 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Prairie's Edge Casino Resort, according to a news release from the Upper Sioux Police Department Chief Christopher Lee.

According to Lee, a 31-year-old Willmar woman was shot in the leg late Monday night by a 41-year-old Morton man after he forced her into a vehicle and fled police along Prairie's Edge Lane.

The woman is in stable condition after being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center from Avera Granite Falls Health Center where she initially arrived Monday for treatment of the gunshot wound. The man was arrested and is being held pending multiple felony charges.

According to Lee, the couple was involved in a domestic dispute in the casino parking lot where the man threatened the Willmar woman with a gun and panicked when he saw law enforcement approaching.

The man forced the woman into a car and fled the scene, during which the woman was shot in the leg.

Law enforcement was notified around 11:30 p.m. Monday that the woman had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound.

A regionwide alert was put out to locate the Morton man and the vehicle, which was located at a Granite Falls residence within minutes of the alert, according to Lee.

The Morton man and another woman were arrested around 3 a.m. Tuesday in Granite Falls and taken into custody without incident. The other woman's involvement in the incident is not mentioned in the news release.

The weapon believed to be used in the incident has been recovered, according to Lee, and the vehicle is being processed for evidence.

The man was transported to the Yellow Medicine County Jail awaiting multiple felony charges.

The case is active and additional charges are pending.

The Granite Falls Police Department and the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office also responded to the incident.
