Willow creator on why he's "kinda into" the show's Disney+ removal

Disney+ hasn't upset Willow boss Jon Kasdan by removing the series from its library.
To the shock of many, it was revealed last week that the streaming service – the home of The Bear and Only Murders in the Building for UK subscribers, as well as all Marvel and Star Wars content – would be axing a number of high-profile titles this Friday (May 26).
Although it's taken this long for Kasdan to address the decision, he doesn't seem to mind the decision, in fact, Willow's fate reignited some nostalgia for him.

A Twitter thread shared yesterday (May 22) reads: "I've been quiet on this news that Willow is leaving @DisneyPlus 'cause... I'm kinda into it. I grew up at a time when Disney movies were periodically re-released and not available to own, and it made them... more special.
"I worry about many things but NONE of them are that Willow will never be available again, either on @DisneyPlus or perhaps... someplace else, and you never know where that could lead... stranger things have happened. So grateful for all the love and enthusiasm; it's truly what keeps these worlds alive."
One of Kasdan's followers shared this sentiment too, replying: "Disney used to be very overt about this approach. I remember when they'd release something on VHS back in the day and the ads would say something to the effect of 'get it now before it disappears back into the vault.' It creates a perception of urgency and demand."

The original announcement from Disney CFO, Christine McCarthy, explained the reason behind the decision to move Willow away from the service: "We are in the process of reviewing the content on our DTC (direct to consumer) services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation. As a result, we will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms."
Y: The Last Man, Dollface, Diary of a Future President, Big Shot, Marvel's Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever and Better Nate Than Ever also received this unlucky fate.
Willow will be available on Disney+ until May 26.
