Willow Smith has returned with a heavy new track “ It’s My Fault,” which is accompanied by a striking performance video directed by Dana Trippe. A press release dubs it “the first taste” of a new album due this summer.

Following the release of “Purge,” the latest from Willow sees her once again lean on a pop-punk sound. This time around, however, it’s the emotive offering that sees Smith channel her frustrations into grunge territory.

“It’s all too often in tender emotional states we try to blame our hurts on other people,” said Willow in a statement. “Even though none of us are perfect, in some capacity it’s us who allow ourselves to get into situations that don’t serve our highest purpose. ‘it’s my fault’ explores what it’s like to hold ourselves equally accountable for the emotional pain we feel while also allowing ourselves to be human and fully process ALL of our feelings without shame.”

Shortly after the arrival of the new song, Willow was among those to speak up against the overturning of Roe v. Wade on Friday. “The U.S government continues to fail us time and time again. I am speechless at the level of ignorance and political violence that the overturning of Roe v Wade signifies,” wrote the 21-year-old. “The blatant unconsciousness of this country has persisted for too long. It’s time for a revolution.”

Stream “ It’s My Fault” below and catch the video up top. The album it lands on will follow 2021’s Lately I Feel Everything, which featured Travis Barker, Avril Lavigne, Tierra Whack, and more.

Willow is hitting the road as support for her “Emo Girl” collaborator Machine Gun Kelly from July 9 in Tulsa, Oklahoma through Aug. 11 in Cleveland.
