Wilmington-area fall high school playoffs: Scores, brackets for NCHSAA and NCISAA sports

The playoffs are in full swing for Wilmington-area teams and there's a lot to keep up with.

From tennis to football, area teams all bring something intriguing to the 2022 playoffs.

Here is everything you need to know about all six fall sports in the Wilmington area.

Football

Girls Golf

NCHSAA 3A East: South Brunswick had a terrific day Monday, with both of its individuals advancing to the state tournament Oct. 24-25. Jillian Fatkin tied for first in the regional at Reedy Creek, shooting 1-under-par 71. Teammate Lillian Powell shot 83 to finish seventh.

NCHSAA 3A State Championship: Fatkin placed fourth at the event, shooting 8-over-par 152 on the par 72 track at Longleaf Golf & Family Club. Teammate Lillian Powell shot 161 to finish eighth.

NCHSAA 4A East: Hoggard was the top team at Tuesday's regional at the Country Club of Landfall's Dye course. The Vikings' Ellie Hildreth was the runner-up individually, shooting 76, and will be joined by teammates Grace Caudill (83) and Kayla Statille (87) at Pinehurst No. 6 next week. Topsail finished third in the team competition, led by Eliza Fogleman shooting 82. Morgan Augustine (87) and Lillian Swann (89) will also represent the Pirates. Individual qualifiers included: Ashley's Sarah Enright (85) and Laney's Brielle Sorenson (85) and Ella Ronner (88).

NCHSAA 4A State Championship: Hildreth led Wilmington-area golfers as she tied for 13th place at Pinehurst No. 6. The sophomore finished 13-over-par 157. Teammate Kayla Statille finished 74th at the event, shooting 205. Topsail's Fogleman (177) tied for 50th at the event while teammates Augustine (199) and Sawnn (195) finished 70th and 72nd. Ashley's Enright (183) tied for 58th place while Laney's Sorenson (175) tied for the 47th spot. Finally, Laney's Ronner (211) finished 76th.

Girls Tennis

New Hanover ran away with regular season play as the area's only undefeated team.

3A Semi Final: #1 Cape Fear Academy5, #4 Arendell Parrott Academy 2

3A Final: #1 Cape Fear Academy 5, #2 Ashville School 3

The Cape Fear Academy girls tennis team ran through the 2022 postseason competition, winning each of its three matches by at least two sets. Led by the strong play of freshman Taylor Garriott and senior Isabel Bellamy, the Hurricanes pushed past a 3-3 tie with Ashville School to earn the 2022 NCISAA 3A state title.

Cross Country

3A East Regionals: South Brunswick's Ellie Harrington finished seventh amongst all girls on Saturday. North Brunswick's Ryann Goodwin also finished inside the top 30. On the boys side, West Brunswick's Henry Smith placed 13th, while North Brunswick's Anderson Metty finished in 15th place. Overall, five boys area runners finished inside the top 30.

4A East Regional boys: Hoggard's Luke Adams finished fourth at the 2022 4A East Regional meet in Carry on Saturday. Teammate Ryan Ibarra finished seventh, while Benjamin DiParisi placed 13th in the event. Laney's Daniel Kemlmer finished 14th. Overall, seven Wilmington-area runners finished inside the top 30.

4A East Regional Girls: Topsail's Kaitlyn Obremski placed second overall in the girls division on Saturday. Hoggard's Ashlei Summers and Molly Parker weren't far behind, finishing fourth and fifth in the event. The Vikings finished second overall, with five runners finishing inside the top 30. Ashley's Danner Harrison took home the 19th. Laney's Isabella Borelli, Camryn Oates and Mary Katherine O'Malley placed inside the top 30 finishers.

4A State Championship: Three Wilmington-area girls finished inside the top 30 at Saturday's 4A state championship in Kernersville. Topsail's Kaitlyn Obremski finished 10th, while Hoggard's Ashlei Summers (12th) and Molly Parker (21st) followed behind. On the boys side, Hoggard's Luke Adams (40th) edged out Laney's Daniel Kelmer (41st) by less than half a second to lead area runners.

Volleyball

After a back-and-fourth season that saw MEC leaders Ashley, Hoggard and Laney all retain the conference's top spot at one point, the volleyball playoffs start Saturday. Ashley repeated as Mideastern Conference champions as they defeated Hoggard 3-1 on Wednesday.
