Wilmington deputy city manager charged with DUI

A Wilmington deputy city manager was arrested Thursday and charged with driving under the influence.

According to arrest records, Mary Vigue was arrested Thursday at approximately 4:34 p.m. on E. Lake Shore Drive, reportedly for driving while impaired, although a spokesperson for the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office stated Saturday morning the charge was driving under the influence. Vigue was given a $2,500 unsecured bond.

"The city of Wilmington has administrative policies and procedures for situations such as these, and the city is following those at this time," according to an emailed statement from the city. "The employee has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation. As this pertains to a personnel matter, no additional information is currently available."

Vigue began serving as a deputy city manager in Wilmington on May 23, 2022, according to a news release from the city announcing her appointment. She oversees finance, internal audit, budget, information technology and human resources for the city of Wilmington.

She previously worked as the budget and management services director for the city of Raleigh, and as an assistant city manager for the city of Greensboro, according to the news release.
