Wilmington man charged with attempted murder after downtown shooting

A pedestrian was found dead near a Wilmington intersection Wednesday evening, police said.

A man has been charged with attempted murder by the Wilmington Police Department following a shooting incident near the 00 block of Princess Street that raised concern among Wilmington residents.

Tristian Allen, 18, has been charged with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony carrying a concealed weapon, and going armed to the terror of the public.

The charges stem from an incident where a man attempted to shoot another person in downtown Wilmington, leading to multiple gunshots.

The shooting prompted a substantial response from Wilmington law enforcement.

Allen was arrested in an apartment complex near the 4100 block of Randall Parkway by SWAT, according to a Wilmington Police Department news release.

“Gun violence is a problem that is not unique to Wilmington, but rather a nationwide issue,” Chief Donny Williams said.

“We will continue to partner with other law enforcement agencies and community groups to reduce gun violence within Wilmington,” he added.

As of Wednesday evening, Allen was being held at the New Hanover County jail under a $500,000 secured bond.
