A 26-year-old Wilmington man pleaded guilty Monday to a February 2015 murder that occurred during a marijuana deal on Queen Street.

According to a news release from District Attorney Ben David, Cashaun Harvin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and assault. New Hanover County Superior Court Judge Kent Harrell sentence him to serve between 12 and 15 years.

He also plead guilty to assault on a government official/employee, which carries a 60-day sentence at the conclusion of the murder sentence. Harvin, who represented himself at trial, will receive credit toward the sentence for the period of incarceration before the entry of this plea.

According to previous reports, Harvin and Tyler Greenfield made a phone call to purchase marijuana from Robert Scott at his home on Queen Street. When Harvin and Greenfield entered the residence, Greenfield’s phone inadvertently redialed Scott’s phone, capturing the incident on Scott’s voicemail.

According to reports, Harvin and Greenfield demanded money and drugs from Scott, who advised them against trying to rob him. Harvin and Greenfield fired their guns, and Scott returned fire. Harvin and Greenfield discharged their weapons 12 times, ultimately inflicting a fatal shot on Scott.

They also shot a woman who was at Scott’s house at the time and interrupted the robbery, striking her in the head. She survived the shooting but was seriously injured. She testified at trial and identified Harvin as one of the shooters.

Harvin and Greenfield were previously tried for their participation in the shooting. Appellate courts overturned their convictions so a second trial for Greenfield took place last year. He is currently serving a life sentence.
