Man charged with murder in April shooting death, held without bond

A pedestrian was found dead near a Wilmington intersection Wednesday evening, police said.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with an April shooting death in Wilmington.

According to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department, Cameron Allen Gerald was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the April 5, 2022, death of TyShaun Delts.

Gerald appeared before a New Hanover County judge Tuesday morning and was held without bond.

Delts was shot around 2:30 p.m. on April 5 on North 11th Street near the intersection with Chestnut Street. The 25-year-old later succumbed to his injuries.

Wilmington Police Chief Donny Williams said the department's thoughts and prayers remain with Delts' family and friends.

"Seeking justice can sometimes be a slow process, but WPD is committed to doing all we can as we continue to work open cases," Williams said in the release.

Williams thanked the members of the police department, as well as the public, the district attorney's office and other agencies, for their work on this case.

In 2020, Delts was injured in a shooting on Carolina Beach Road that left a 15-year-old boy dead.

Trequan Crews, 23, is facing numerous charges for that incident, including first-degree murder.

The police department asked anyone with information about Delts' death to contact the department by calling 910-343-3609, using the Tip 411 app, or messaging 847411 with the keyword WPDNC.
