A lunch conversation among three friends -- Lenora Norris, Jill Shellman and Julia Vosler -- about how fortunate their lives have been, prompted them to organize a nonprofit group, Shop for Hope, to help those less fortunate.

The three ladies have given back to the community in their own way over the years, and thought it would be great to collaborate on a new venture by bringing people together, having some fun while raising awareness and much-needed funds for a great cause.

Shop for Hope will hold its first fundraising event in February. The fundraiser will benefit the Domestic Violence Shelter and Services Inc. in Wilmington.

Shellman, of Intracoastal Realty, worked in the not-for-profit sector for more than 27 years in the North before settling in the area over four years ago with her husband.

With 100% of the profit from Shop for Hope going directly to the shelter, participants can shop for clothing and jewelry (most under $20). There will be a basket raffle also. Attendees also will have individual charcuterie boards, and an array of wine for those 21 and older.

Norris, also of Intracoastal Realty, has been involved in many local charities over the past 30 years in the area. She has chaired events and has been an active participant in many other events. She has lived in community since 1978.

“We are all hoping that our efforts will make a difference and create an impact on the lives of those in need. Sometimes we are unaware of the impact we have on others.”

Vosler and her husband, Bob Rossi, owners of the Home Design Center of Leland, believe firmly about giving back to the community.

“We used to host pop-up markets that benefited many local artisans, and now are thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to such an important organization,“ said Volser.
