A feature film shot in Wilmington in 2021 has released a trailer and is set to hit theaters this spring.

"One True Loves" will debut April 7 and will hit digital platforms starting April 14, according to a trailer released this week.

Based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, “One True Loves” is about a woman, played by Grammy-winning, Tony-nominated actress Phillipa Soo of "Hamilton," whose husband (Luke Bracey of "G.I. Joe: Retaliation") mysteriously disappears in a helicopter crash over the ocean and is given up for dead. He then mysteriously reappears, but only after she's engaged to another man.

The new "Love" is played by Simu Liu, best known for his star turn in Marvel superhero film "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings."

In the trailer, which has the vibe of a quirky rom-com, glimpses of Wrightsville Beach can be seen, including one shot of Johnnie Mercers Pier.

According to a Facebook post by Kimmie Stewart Casting of Wilmington, which did some work for the film, including extras casting, there are "some great shots of a lot of you in the trailer!"

"One True Loves" was directed by Andy Fickman ("Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" and TV's "Kevin Can Wait"), and produced by The Avenue with BuzzFeed Studios and Highland Film Group.

In late 2021, the wrap party for "One True Loves," held at the bar Whiskey Tango Foxtrot in downtown Wilmington, inspired a sketch on "Saturday Night Live" when the show was hosted by Liu (who dropped in on a University of North Carolina Wilmington theater class during his time in Wilmington).

The SNL sketch was set in a fictional Wilmington establishment called Bixby's Bar & Grill, and it more or less depicted some epically bad karaoke performances, some of which were based on actual performances that took place during the movie's wrap party.
