Netflix has announced the long-awaited debut of the television series "Florida Man," which shot in the Wilmington area in 2021.

According to a trailer for the show released Friday, the show will premiere April 13.

Billed as a darkly comedic thriller, the series stars Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez ("Yes Day") as a former cop and gambling addict who returns to his home state of Florida to find a mobster's runaway girlfriend (Abbey Lee).

True to the show's title, a kind of shorthand for crazy men doing crazy things that end in arrest and sensational media coverage, things would appear to spin out of control from there. The trailer shows such Florida-worthy sights as a man appearing to shoot a pistol at fish in shallow water, and a woman using an aerosol can to shoot flames at a raccoon. (Not that the state doesn't have a kind of perverse pride in its "Florida man" rep. When the filming location of Wilmington was announced, some people in Florida were apparently upset the show was being shot in North Carolina.)

The "Florida Man" cast also includes Anthony LaPaglia (TV's "Without a Trace") and Clark Gregg ("The Avengers"), who was a regular at the Bespoke coffee shop downtown when the show was shooting in town.

"Florida Man" was created by Emmy-nominated writer and producer Donald Todd, known for the shows "This Is Us," "Ugly Betty" and the Wilmington-shot "Sleepy Hollow."

The trailer features a ton of quick edits, but plenty of Port City locations can be seen, including the Wilmington International Airport, the Starway Flea Market on Carolina Beach Road and a little bit of Princess Place Drive.

Other area locations said to be used by the show include The Rusty Nail on South Fifth Avenue and Melissa's Coin Laundry in Carolina Beach.
