A Wilmington woman took a chance and won big in the North Carolina Education Lottery.

According to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery, Lorette Holliday purchased a $5 scratch-off at Sam’s Superette on South 6th Street in Wilmington and took home a $200,000 prize.

Holliday claimed her prize Friday and took home $142,501, after required state and federal tax withholdings.

With her prize money, Holliday told lottery officials she plans to invest in comfort as she is recovering from foot surgery.

“I want to get one of those La-Z-Boy chairs,” she said. “That’s the main thing I want.”

Holliday won the last of six $200,000 top prizes in the Lincoln game, which means the game will come to an end.

“I looked at it about four or five times to make sure it was real and not a dream,” Holliday recalled. “I couldn’t believe it.”
