Wilson County building update: Restaurants, senior living, Green Hill High, dogs and more

An update on a number of notable business building projects in Wilson County.

Harmony at Mt. Juliet: Harmony Senior Services plan to open a senior living facility with 190 units on Belinda Parkway in Mt. Juliet now under construction in late 2020 or 2021.

Plans are for 85 independent living apartment units, 69 assisted living apartments and 36 units for memory care services, said Smith/Packett Senior Development Manager Justin Newman.

Harmony Senior Services recently opened Harmony at Victory Station in Murfreesboro and Harmony at Brentwood. A Harmony at Bellevue has also broken ground.

Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary: Work has started on a new facility to be built on Nonaville Road in Mt. Juliet where the nonprofit will move to from its current location on Lebanon Road.

Hopes are to be in the new 18,700 square foot facility in about a year, said Zina Goodin, who launched Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary as a nonprofit in 2012 on their own property.

Old Friends current location is the former Moss’ Florist & Garden Center, which will be kept until the new facility is open.

Schlotzsky’s Austin Eatery: A new stand-alone restaurant, under construction on nearly 3,200 square feet on Old Pleasant Grove Road in Mt. Juliet, is targeted to open in December, according to franchise owner Russ Hunt.

The restaurant is on just over an acre behind Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen and Firestone. The restaurant will include a drive-thru and patio according to Hunt.

The Incredible Christmas Place: The popular year-round Pigeon Forge destination recently has announced a second store to open on North Mt. Juliet Road in Mt. Juliet.

The opening for the 12,000 square foot store is targeted for summer 2020.

Rooms To Go: The furniture chain now expects to open a 900,000 square foot warehouse off Interstate 840 in Wilson County that will include a 40,000 square foot retail outlet store in the second quarter of 2020, company Vice-President Peter Weitzner said.

Dollar Generals (maybe two): Work is underway on a new Dollar General store at 3140 Curd Road in Mt. Juliet near Lebanon Road.

Opening is tentatively targeted for early spring 2020, Dollar General spokesperson Mary Kathryn Colbert said.

A site plan has also been submitted for a new store on Nonaville Road that Dollar General is studying, Colbert said.

Slim Chickens: Work on the restaurant approved last year on North Mt. Juliet Road is underway with the projected opening around February, according to Harold Wallace of Life Changing Hospitality.The site is near the Mt. Juliet Dental Group building and just south of the Lebanon Road intersection.

Taco Bell/KFC: Plans are to separate an existing combined Taco Bell and KFC restaurant in Mt. Juliet on Lebanon Road to make each a stand alone restaurant next to each other.

Hopes are to begin construction on a new stand-alone Taco Bell with the combined Taco Bell and KFC restaurant to remain open during construction, said Homey Aminmadani of the family ownership group.

When the new Taco Bell is finished, the existing restaurant will close temporarily to be  renovated into a KFC-only restaurant.

Aminmadani hopes the new Taco Bell can open in the early part of 2020 and the KFC remodel to take about 60 days.

Taco Bell (Lebanon): A new Taco Bell on Eastgate Boulevard in Lebanon is also planned after delays because of site work on the property.

The new Lebanon Taco Bell will also be owned by the Aminmadani family.

The Capstone at Mt. Juliet: Construction on a new senior living and memory care facility near North Mt. Juliet Road and Oakhall Drive in Mt. Juliet is expected to start in early 2020.

The 78,000 square foot facility with plans for 88 rooms and up to 114 residents with studio one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites could open in late 2020, Hunt Midwest Vice President of Development and Construction Aaron Schmidt said.

Hilton Garden Inn/Tru Hotel by Hilton: Work is underway on a five-story 172-room dual brand hotel approved on Providence Parkway in Mt. Juliet behind the Goodwill store, owner Bhavin Ghodasara said.

The hotel will be Mt. Juliet’s largest and a blend of two brands, Ghodasara said. Tentative hopes are to open in early 2021.

Panda Express: To move into the former White Castle restaurant at Pleasant Grove and North Mt. Juliet roads between mid-December 2019 and early 2020, company representative Erika Coronel said.

Plans are for the 84 indoor seats and 16 outdoor seats in the 2,800 square foot restaurant.

The Lost Cajun: The restaurant is projected to open in early 2020 on Pleasant Grove Road at The Paddocks at Mt. Juliet near Walmart, under franchise owners Rob and Susan Estrada.

The couple has owned The Lost Cajun franchise in Hendersonville for nearly five years, which they will continue to operate.

The Mt. Juliet restaurant will be about 2,600 square feet and seat about 75 inside and 24 more on a patio, Rob Estrada said.

Dollar Tree: The new store has opened at the former P.J.’s Antique Mall on Lebanon Road in Mt. Juliet after a significant renovation.

Avid Hotels: A new Avid Hotels brand hotel with 87 rooms is under construction at 120 Willard Hagan Drive near Interstate 40 and South Hartmann Drive in Lebanon.

Hopes are to open in the first quarter of 2020, owner Kunal Shah said. Shah also owns a StayBridge Suites in Mt. Juliet that opened earlier this year.

MY SALON Suite: The franchise with 23 individual salon suites for health and beauty professionals recently celebrated its grand opening in the Providence Station development on Providence Parkway in Mt. Juliet. Jim and Tracey Anisi are the franchise owners.

Music City Honda: The former Madison dealership’s relocation to Belinda Parkway in Mt. Juliet was completed in October with a new building now open.

The dealership has around 400 vehicles on the lot with six express service bays and 24 conventional bays.

QuikTrip: Plans have been submitted to Lebanon’s planning department to build a travel center that will include a store and fuel for the general pubic and the trucking industry on land off Sparta Pike and Phelan Drive.

The plan is going through the approval process. Hopes are to open in late 2021 or early 2022, said QuikTrip spokesman Mike Thornbrugh.

Christian Brothers Automotive: A Christian based company expects to open a Mt. Juliet franchise at 12820 Lebanon Road in mid-December.

Greg and Mandy Bandy are the franchise owners. The nine-bay facility will offer auto repair and auto maintenance services with about 5-6 employees to start, Greg Bandy said.

RaceTrac: A convenience store and gas station with 16 pumps on West Main Street in Lebanon just east of Snow White Drive In is targeted to open in late 2020 or early 2021, according to a company representative. A new RaceTrac is also planned on South Cumberland Street in Lebanon at the old Ryan's restaurant property, city officials said.

Kevin Dawson was recently named as principal and school hours are tentatively to be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., “barring something unforeseen,” Wilson County Schools spokesman Bart Barker said. The district anticipates opening with around 1,700 students with an ideal capacity of 2,000.

Dawson is now the West Wilson Middle principal and will transition into his new role at Green Hill High in January as the district will look to hire additional personnel.

The district is also responsible for road improvements that include moving an existing traffic light on Lebanon Road at North Greenhill as part of a street realignment and extension of Benton Douglas Parkway.

Jones Brummett Elementary: The Lebanon Special School District school is scheduled to open in August 2021. The school name is for Steve Jones, a longstanding board member and chair, and Andy Brummett, a former teacher, principal and superintendent who now is on the school board.
