Wilson grad Alison Willingmyre wins age group, is second overall female at Ironman 70.3 Atlantic City

Sep. 12—Wilson grad Alison Willingmyre finished as the second overall female in Sunday's Ironman 70.3 Atlantic City in New Jersey to qualify for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship next year in New Zealand.

Willingmyre, a Penn State grad from Wernersville, completed the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run in 4:37.34 to win the 15-24 age group.

She completed the swim in 29.50, the bike in 2:23.00 and the run in 1:32.16 to finish 36th overall out of 1,341 competitors. There were 319 female participants.

Sharon Schmidt-Mongrain was the top female in 4:36.23.

Dorothea Chouinard finished second in the 18-24 age group in 5:03.15.

The Ironman 70.3 World Championship will be held next December in Taupo, New Zealand.
