Wilson Road bridge in Kittery closed for repairs: What drivers need to know

KITTERY, Maine — The Wilson Road bridge above the Maine Turnpike will be temporarily closed to traffic into early August for scheduled repairs.

The closure for the Maine Turnpike Authority project, which began Monday, will last 28 days, according to the town. Work on the bridge, built in 1971, will include pavement and membrane replacement, approach work and paving, deck expansion joint repairs, bridge drain replacement and superstructure and substructure repairs.

The bridge crosses over the Maine Turnpike, or Interstate 95, at mile marker 2.0 in Kittery.

A 7.25-mile detour route has been put in place while the closure is in effect, bringing travelers through routes 1, 236, 101 and Beech Road.

The $740,000 project is being conducted by CPM Constructors of Freeport, Maine, a company that completed work last fall on the town’s Route 1 off ramp.

The Maine Turnpike Authority is funding the project, which is funded by toll revenue.

The bridge should be ready to fully reopen by Aug. 7, said Erin Courtney, spokesperson for the Maine Turnpike Authority.

“Approximately 4,630 vehicles travel over the mainline of the Maine Turnpike on Wilson Road daily,” a project description states.
