Wilson School Board issues statement concerning sex abuse charges against a teacher

Nov. 22—The Wilson School Board issued a statement at the beginning of its meeting Monday night related to the charges of sexual abuse filed against a district employee.

Ryan Blew, 25, a teacher, was accused last week of sending sexually explicit photos to a 15-year-old boy and one instance of sexual abuse.

The district has not mentioned Blew by name in a statement released last week or at the meeting Monday, but the district statement linked to a press release from the Berks County district attorney's office announcing charges against Blew.

Blew was arraigned last Wednesday before District Judge Ann L. Young on charges of unlawful contact with a minor, criminal use of a communication facility, sexual abuse of children, corruption of a minor and indecent assault. Blew remains free on $50,000 bail.

At the meeting, Dr. Chris Trickett, superintendent, said the teacher is on paid leave until a state-mandated hearing during which public employees are given a chance to present their side of a case.

Trickett said the law mandates that public employees be placed on paid administrative leave until after the hearing.

A statement posted last week to the district's website says the charges are unrelated to the teacher's employment with the district based on information provided by the district attorney's office.

The employee was placed on leave after police notified Wilson of the investigation on Aug. 30 and has not been in district buildings since then, the statement says.

The district also confirmed in the statement that the employee had active PA Child Abuse, Pennsylvania Criminal History and FBI Criminal History clearances.
