Who should win PNJ Athlete of the Week for Sept. 5-10? Cast your vote

The polls are open until 11 a.m. Friday at PNJ.com. Each weekly winner will be awarded a one-of-a-kind PNJ.com Athlete of the Week shirt provided by BSN SPORTS. Winners will be contacted within the next two weeks.

Nominees are accepted via email or phone, but will be selected by staff in the absence of submission.

Boys Cross Country: Drew Birx, Pensacola Christian Academy - The senior was area's best boys performer at the Gulf Coast Stampede. Birx finished fifth with a time of 16 minutes, 51.4 seconds to lead the Warriors to a third-place team finish.

Boys Golf: R.J. White, Pensacola Catholic - The senior had solid efforts during two Crusaders team victories. White shot a score of 38 during a team's meet against Destin at Indian Bayou. Two days later, he put up a low-medalist mark of 32 in a three-team meet at Tiger Point.

Boys Swim and Dive: Ian Malone and Logan Robinson, Booker T. Washington - The duo was unbeaten in their respective events during a multi-team home meet as well as the Panama City Invitational. Malone, a freshman, earned wins in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle while Robinson, a junior, was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. Both swimmers helped the Wildcats pick up wins in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Girls Cross Country: Jaimee Tutton, Pensacola Christian Academy - The freshman helped PCA make history as the Warriors became the first girls team from Escambia or Santa Rosa County to win Gulf Coast Stampede. Tutton finished third after crossing the finish line in 19:44.7.

Girls Golf: Holland Davidson, Gulf Breeze - The senior was the medalist during a three-team meet at Tiger Point. Davidson put up a score of 40 to help the Dolphins to a team win over Pace and Navarre.

Girls Swim and Dive: Taylor Clements, West Florida - The Jaguars freshman was unbeaten in seven events through two meets. During a multi-team meet at Booker T. Washington, Clements earned individual wins at the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke as well aiding the Jaguars to victories in the 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay. Days later at the Panama City Invite, she helped the West Florida repeat those relay wins while also taking the 50 freestyle.

Football Defense: Brandon Comes, Pace - The senior defensive lineman collected three-and-a-half sacks and eight hurries during the Patriots 42-14 win at home against West Florida.

Football Offense: Nick Simmons, Pace - The sophomore quarterback produced five total touchdowns to lift the Patriots to a 42-14 victory against West Florida. Rushing for 122 yards on 26 carries, Simmons scored three times on the ground and another two scores through the air.

Football Special Teams: Raymond Cottrell, Milton - The senior athlete blocked a potential game-tying field-goal attempt with less than two minutes remaining to help preserve the Panthers’ first victory of the season. Milton defeated Booker T. Washington 47-31.

Volleyball: Camryn Brooks, Gulf Breeze - The senior outside hitter led the Dolphins to three wins in as many days. Brooks totaled 36 kills, 16 digs, four blocks and two aces within that stretch. She posted a career-best 16 kills during the team’s sweep of Niceville.
