Wind gusts up to 60 mph, thunderstorms expected to hit metro Detroit on Monday

A flood watch has been issued for a portion of southeast Michigan, including metro Detroit, due to expected severe weather.

According to the National Weather Service in White Lake, damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph are expected Monday afternoon and evening, as well as multiple rounds of thunderstorms.

There will be rapid rainfall, with totals of 1-2 inches possible but could reach 3 inches. Hail could also be a possibility.

Risk for severe weather is expected between 3-10 p.m., NWS said. The flood watch will continue from 5 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Residents who live in flood-prone areas should consider getting valuables out of the basement and prep for possible backups.
