Windber athletes lead way on Somerset All-County Football Team

Windber entered the 2021 season with a big target on its back. The Ramblers lived up to the billing dominating the WestPAC en route to a conference title and an Appalachian Bowl throttling of Heritage Conference champ, Cambria Heights.

The Ramblers' postseason accolades continue to roll in. The Somerset Football Coaches selected Windber tailback John Shuster as the all-county Offensive MVP, while head coach Matt Grohal earned Coach of the Year accolades.

Meanwhile, Berlin Brothersvalley defensive end Holby McClucas collected Defensive MVP honors.

Shuster racked up 1,407 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns on 155 attempts. Despite not playing a full four quarters of football until Week 9, Shuster had 10, 100-yard games this season. The junior also caught six passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns, and also made an impact on the defensive side of the ball.

Shuster was also recently named the inaugural Daily American Somerset County All-24 Football Team Offensive MVP.

Grohal guided the Ramblers to a 10-1 mark. Windber suffered a heartbreaking loss to Westinghouse in the District 5-8 Class AA title game. However, Grohal was a major reason for Windber's return to glory. He was also recently selected Daily American Somerset County All-24 Football Team Coach of the Year.

Windber led the all-county selections with 10.

McClucas tallied 76 tackles, including 24 for loss, 9.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries for the Mountaineers. The junior had double digit tackles in two games.

Berlin went 8-3 and advanced to the District 5-8 Class AA semifinals before falling to Windber. McClucas was a major part of Berlin's success on both sides of the football. He was a key cog in the wheel on offense. McClucas was one of the top tight ends in the county.

McClucas was also a defensive selection on the Daily American Somerset County All-24 Football Team as well.

The Mountaineers had eight athletes chosen to the all-county team.
