New wine bar to take former Sharp Edge space on Penn Avenue downtown

Barcelona Wine Bar, a regular Wine Spectator favorite that can toast a spreading number of locations in cities such as Washington, D.C., Denver, Charlotte and Nashville, is ready to take over a one-time craft beer destination in the Cultural District for its entrance into the Pittsburgh dining scene.

According to an an announcement by CBRE, Barcelona Wine Bar is coming to a 5,203-square-foot location at 922 Penn Ave. and is expected to open next year in a property owned by Rugby Realty affiliate iPenn Ventures LP.

It’s the former location of Sharp Edge Bistro, which had a run of about 10 years in the location before owner Jeff Walewski opted not to renew a lease option for the space in late 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic had made operations a challenge.

Herky Pollock and Jessica Curtis of CBRE represented Barcelona Wine Bar in the deal, while the firm’s Jason Cannon represented the landlord, according to the announcement.
