Wine pick: Villion Chenin Blanc 2021, South Africa

The Loire Valley is considered the home to the Chenin Blanc grape, but South Africa makes world class examples. Some experts even claim South Africa is setting the standard for the grape globally. I would have to concur that this may be the truth after years of tasting some stellar examples.

Villion makes one of the top Chenin’s in the country and the price is fabulous. Kobie Viljoen is considered one of the country's top winemakers and after one sip of this gem, you’ll be a fan.

Aromatics of citrus, quince, apricots and cinnamon escape the glass. Flavors of ripe peaches, white pears and subtle spices fill the palate. The wine has superb balance and wonderful mouthfeel with a long finish.

Pair with: Seared scallops in a lemon Beurre Blanc sauce, linguine and clams, fried walleye or crab cakes.

Price: $25.99
