We don’t know about you, but we often struggle to choose between a calming cuppa and a relaxing glass of merlot.

The good news is you no longer have to decide which of your two favourite beverages to enjoy on the sofa come evening.

A French brand has come up with the genius solution to combine tea and wine.

You can now enjoy a fusion of the two in one single drink.

The winemakers Pernod Ricard this week launched their Australian-made ‘Tea & Wine’ range.

It features two varieties to choose from - a 2018 unoaked Chardonnay infused with Egyptian Chamomile and a 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon infused with Sri-Lankan Chai.

A bottle costs a very reasonable £12, particularly since you literally get two drinks for the price of one.

The bad news? Its currently only available in Australian alcohol chain Dan Murphy’s.

According to The Shout, the idea came about purely by accident when colleagues at the brand were discussing their plans for the weekend - which all turned out to feature either tea or wine.

“It turned out that those two beverages were serving the same ritual, the ritual of kicking off your shoes at the end of a long day and just enjoying,” said spokesperson Helen Herges.

“We thought – do you actually have to choose? Or could we combine the two? It made perfect sense to us.”

They then spent two years perfecting the concept.

“First, we tried the obvious. We were brewing tea and blending it into wine, and then we tried to brew tea in cold wine. Drinkable? Maybe, but not very great,” explained Herges.

“We then moved on to the little bit more ‘out there’ methods. We were drying grapes on a bed of tea leaves, inspired by the Amarone in Italy.

“We even tea smoked a barrel to finish the wine in, which was inspired by the Chinese tea smoked duck.”

There are plans to make the product more widely available in the future.
