Wings Over Solano adds F-22 and more to 2024 airshow performances

(FOX40.COM) — With less than a month until the United States Navy Blue Angels headline Wings Over Solano, the air show has made several additions to its line-up since January.

The show is scheduled to take place over two days on March 16 and March 17 on the Travis Airforce Base flight line.

Fifth-gen fighter demo team scheduled for 2024 California Capital Airshow

Gates open at 9 a.m. and performances begin at 11 a.m. with free parking for passenger vehicles and RVs.

While some performers have dropped from the show, a whole host of exciting modern cutting-edge aircraft and awe-inspiring historic war birds have been added to the performance list.

One of the most anticipated performances will be from the Joint Base Langley-Eustis F-22 Raptor Demo Team.

The F-22 is the USAF’s first fifth-generation fighter aircraft with an emphasis on low-radar detection stealth technology and unimaginable maneuverability.

On the other end of the jet fighter spectrum is the de Havilland DH-115 Vampire, the world’s first single-engine jet fighter, introduced in 1946.

The historic jet fighter will be operated by Vampire Airshows.

Another unique and rather rare performance will be by Greg Coyler and his T-33 “Ace Maker.”

The T-33 was the bedrock of jet-powered military aircraft in the United States when it first took flight as the single-seater P-80 Shooting Star in 1945.

Coyler and “Ace Maker” have been a pair since 2008 and he established the nonprofit T-33 Heritage Foundation to continue the preservation of his aircraft and other T-33s.

Along with screaming jets and thundering piston-powered aircraft, there will also be a gravity-powered flight from the United States Air Force Academy’s Wings of Blue.

The demonstration team travels across the country to airshows, sporting events, and other venues to represent the Air Force in precision parachuting.

Like many other airshows, the aerial performances will not be the only chance for guests to get a look at some stunning aircraft. Wings Over Solano will also host a vast ground display of static aircraft.

Some of the static displays include:
• U2 Dragon Lady
• UH-60 Blackhawk
• A-10 Thunderbolt II
• F-35 Lightning II
• AH-1 Cobra
• A6M Zero
• EA-18 Growler
• And More
