Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office introduces new K9

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Winnebago County announced on Thursday that they welcoming in another K9.

According to a release from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, K9 Gracie will be a new member of the agency. Gracie, along with her partner Deputy Devin Wilson, are being assigned to the Corrections Division.

K9 Gracie is a 7-month-old standard poodle and has completed six weeks of training at Central WI K9 in Schofield, Wisconsin. Officials say she is classified as a Facility Dog which means she will work full-time at the facility under the care and supervision of her handler.

As a Facility Dog, Gracie will provide comfort and reduce anxiety and stress during times of crisis to correctional officers, police officers, civilian and professional staff, victims, witnesses, and inmates. She will also be expected to provide comfort and aid to individuals, groups, and communities impacted by violence, tragedy, and traumatic events.

Officials say K9 Gracie and handler Deputy Wilson will also be a part of the Sheriff’s Office STAR Program. The STAR Program is a sobriety-assisted treatment program that allows participants to get support and resources to help them succeed.
