Winner native Bella Swedlund to transfer to Toledo

Jan. 19—TOLEDO, Ohio — Former Winner High School girls basketball standout Bella Swedlund will join the University of Toledo's women's basketball program next season, the school announced this week.

Swedlund is a transfer from Kansas. She will join the Rockets for the 2023-24 season and have four years of eligibility remaining, head coach Tricia Cullop said.

"We originally recruited Bella out of high school and we are thrilled she's now a Rocket," Cullop said in a news release. "Offensively, she will bring an amazing scoring ability at all three levels, as well as terrific court vision. She hails from a very successful high school program and is a proven winner. Her skill set aligns well with our style of play and she's a perfect fit with the high- character people and strong students already on our roster."

Swedlund said earlier this month that she intended to transfer from Kansas. Swedlund scored a Winner-record 2,256 points where she played from seventh grade, finishing in the top-15 for all-time girls high school scorers in the state. She was the Mitchell Republic's girls basketball player of the year in 2021, and helped the Warriors win the 2019 Class A state tournament.

She was a three-star prospect according to ESPN.com and the No. 25-ranked point guard in the class of 2022.
