Winning $270,000 lottery ticket expires soon — but no one has claimed the NC prize
A North Carolina lottery player scored a six-figure jackpot win — and hasn’t claimed the prize yet.
But time is running out, as the ticket worth $270,023 expires in a few days, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.
“Search everywhere you keep your tickets and double-check any you have to see if you have the winning ticket,” Mark Michalko, executive director of the lottery, said in a Nov. 6 news release. “We hope that whomever purchased this ticket comes forward to claim their prize soon.”
The win dates to May 13, when someone hit the jackpot in the Cash 5 game. The lottery player spent $1 on the winning ticket at Caton’s Grocery on Statesville Road in Charlotte, officials said.
The person’s ticket matched all the numbers in the drawing, beating 1-in-962,598 odds to win big. The numbers picked that night were: 9-15-17-33-41.
In North Carolina, jackpot winners have about six months to cash in draw game prizes. The winning Cash 5 ticket expires Nov. 10, but the deadline to come forward at the lottery’s headquarters in Raleigh has been extended to 5 p.m. Nov. 13 due to Veterans Day.
As of about 10:15 a.m. Nov. 6, the prize remained unclaimed, officials told McClatchy News in an email.
