Winning Powerball ticket worth $100K sold at Luzerne County market remains unclaimed

A lucky player in Luzerne County recently purchased a winning Powerball ticket worth approximately $100,000, the Pennsylvania Lottery said Thursday.

The winning ticket matched four of the five white balls drawn in Wednesday’s drawing. The winning numbers were 9, 36, 41, 44 and 59, plus the red Powerball numbered 4.

The ticket’s Power Play multiplier doubled the winnings from $50,000 to $100,000, the lottery said in a press release.

Convenient Food Mart, located at 101 Main St. in Luzerne, earned a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The winner has one year from the drawing date to claim the prize. Winners can be identified only after prizes are claimed and tickets are validated, the lottery said.

Lottery officials say winners should immediately sign the backs of their tickets. Anyone holding a winning ticket is encouraged to call 1-800-692-7481 or visit palottery.com to inquire about filing a claim.

In a statement, the Pennsylvania Lottery said the Powerball jackpot has rolled to an estimated annuity value of $219 million, or $119.7 million cash, for the next drawing Saturday.

The game’s players are tasked with correctly picking five numbers between one and 69 and a Powerball between one and 26. The overall chances of winning any prize, starting at $4, are roughly 1 in 25, but the odds of hitting a jackpot are about 1 in 292 million, the Pennsylvania Lottery estimates. The chances of scoring a $50,000 base prize, like Luzerne County’s recent winner, are approximately 1 in 913,000.
