Winning a six-figure lottery jackpot made SC man a new fan of country music star

A Midlands man has found a new appreciation for Luke Combs after winning a six-figure jackpot on a South Carolina Education Lottery ticket bearing the country music star’s name.

The man won $200,000 on a “Living Lucky With Luke Combs” scratch-off game that he bought for $5 in Lexington County, lottery officials said Tuesday in a news release. That’s the top prize in the game named for Combs.

“I didn’t know who Luke Combs was, but something told me to pick that ticket,” the winner said in the release.

After his newfound windfall, the Midlands man is a fan of the country star now, lottery officials said.

The winner bought the ticket at Jet Fuels, at 3835 Charleston Highway in West Columbia, according to the release. The convenience store/gas station is in the area between Interstate 26 and U.S. 321, near the South Carolina State Farmers Market.

“It was crazy, and it was amazing,” the winner said.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

The man didn’t say how he’ll spend the $200,000, only hinting he’ll use it on his family, according to the release.

The odds of winning the top prize in the “Living Lucky With Luke Combs” game are one-in-750,000, lottery officials said. Only one of the game’s three top prize-winning tickets remains unclaimed, according to the release.

Jet Fuels received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed winning ticket, lottery officials said.

For players who did not win money playing the “Living Lucky With Luke Combs” game, they still have a chance to be rewarded by the country music star.

Non-winning tickets can be entered at sceducationlottery.com or by using the Lottery’s Players’ Club app for a chance to win a trip to Nashville to see Combs live in concert at the iconic Ryman Auditorium, according to the release. During the show, someone is going to win $500,000, lottery officials said. Ten ticket-holders will win a trip package to Nashville, that includes several amenities beyond the concert, and is valued at $20,145, according to lottery officials.
