WINNING WEDNESDAY: OKWU fall teams post 2-0-1 mark

It was an evening of neither good or bad news for the Oklahoma Wesleyan University men’s soccer team.

It was one of those break-even nights — the Eagles saw their seven-match winning streak ended, but remained remained unbeaten in October.

The Ottawa (Kan.) Braves tied the Eagles, 3-3, on Wednesday, in OKWU’s regular season home finale.

The toe modified the Eagles’ record to 10-4-2 overall and 9-1-1 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

But, Eagles have still clinched the conference title with one game remaining, Saturday at Kansas Wesleyan.

The three goals allowed Wednesday were the second-most given up by OKWU.

They kept pace with goals by Stefan Cvetanovic, Kevin Petrmichl and Ivan Tadic. Victor Crispim and Matheus Ferreira each handed out an assist.

The stood tied at halftime, 1-1. During a span of five minutes in the second half, the teams combined for four goals to forge the deadlock. Neither side score the final 35:19.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

After seeing their bid for a perfect season ended last weekend, the OKWU Lady Eagles took out their spite on Ottawa (Kan.), 12-1, on Wednesday.

OKWU improved to 16-0-1 overall and 11-0-0 in the KCAC standings.

Last Saturday, Briar Cliff tied OKWU, 0-0, to foist a tie on the Lady Eagles’ record.

Ottawa felt the sting.

Laura Maria added another hat-trick (three goals0 to her long string this season. Naroa Domenech led the assault with four goals.

Joelle Meister added two goals, followed by Sunny Rasmussen, Tania Mocholi and Juliana Viera with a goal apiece.

Meister amassed two assists.

Nerea Perez played the distance in goal, making one save for OKWU, which is coached by Jamie Peterson.

Next up, the Lady Eagles travel Saturday to Kansas Wesleyan to finish off the regular season.

VOLLEYBALL

Snapping back from their first loss since August, the Lady Eagles knocked off Bethel (Kan.), 3-2 (22-25, 25-6, 25-18, 20-25, 15-6).

OKWU improved to 31-2 on the season and 10-2 in conference.

Lauren McKinney mashed 15 kills to lead the OKWU assault, followed by Daisy Scott and Makaila Keith with 12 apiece.

Addie Mathias and Sydney Collins piled up 24 and 22 assists, respectively; Andjela Micunovic recorded another incredible effort at libero by making 34 digs, followed by Collins and Kourtney Kelley with 10 each.

OKWU, which is coached by Tracie Gillette, is slated to play at 2 p.m. Friday at home against Haskell in a OKWU Tri-Match.
