Winston Churchill’s grandson calls Trump a ‘repulsive maniac’ after a mob storms Capitol

Winston Churchill’s grandson has torn into President Donald Trump, accusing him of being a “repulsive maniac” after a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol.
Sir Nicholas Soames described President Trump as a “dangerous madman” in a series of tweets as rioters descended on the Capitol on Wednesday.
Mr Trump is a big Winston Churchill fan and famously returned a bust of the wartime Prime Minister to the Oval Office within hours of being sworn in.
On a state visit to the UK in June 2019 the Queen gifted President Trump a first edition copy of Churchill’s book series on the Second World War and Theresa May gave him a copy of Churchill’s blueprint for the United Nations.
During the same visit, GMB presenter Piers Morgan gave the President a personalized version of Churchill's signature hat and interviewed him in the Churchill War Rooms.
Ivanka Trump even compared her father to Churchill at a rally in Ohio shortly before the 2020 US election.
However, the Trump family’s admiration for the wartime hero is not reciprocated by Churchill’s grandson who accused the President of inciting yesterday’s extraordinary scenes.
Sir Nicholas, a former Tory MP, tweeted at Trump: “This is your fault you repulsive maniac.”
He was responding to a comment from the President in which he urged his supporters to “remain peaceful”.

Sir Nicholas wrote: “Never in a lifetime could one imagine such appalling scenes in the Capitol.
“A testament to the unspeakably vile behaviour of President Trump now confirmed to be a very very bad man.”
He also described his behaviour as that of a “third world dictator” and added: “A terrible incalculable tragedy to see scenes like this in the Capital city of our closest dearest ally, partner and friend in the defence of freedom and democracy for generations.”
