Winter 2022-23 was remarkable on both coasts, but for completely different reasons

If you ask people to define a "good" or "bad" winter, you'll likely get very different results depending on who you talk to. Objectively, the 2022-23 winter season was a remarkable one for cities on the East Coast and West Coast, but for completely different reasons. Scientists with the Midwest Regional Climate Center, based in West Lafayette, Indiana, attempt to quantify the intensity of a winter season each year using the Accumulated Winter Season Severity Index (AWSSI).
