The winter prep sports season is over: Four area teams lose in state tournaments

The winter season for area high school sports came to an end Thursday as two basketball teams and two soccer teams lost in state tournaments.

Thursday night was the final prep game for Camarillo High superstar Gabriela Jaquez, who had a record-setting career and will now head to UCLA in the fall. Jaquez finished with 37 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks before fouling out in the Scorpions' 67-49 loss to third-seeded and host Bishop Montgomery in the second round of the CIF-State Division I girls basketball tournament.

Christa Contreras added three points and six rebounds for the 11th-seeded Scorpions, who played their final four postseason games on the road, including a loss to Viewpoint in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 final. Camarillo finished 30-3 to become just the seventh area girls basketball team to win 30 games in a single season.
