Winter sports stars continue to shine in postseason for Tremendous 10 poll

Winter sports teams are continuing their postseason run, led by top performances that make this week's list of nominees for The Ledger's Tremendous 10 poll.

Last week, Lakeland Christian senior soccer player Hale Ottman ran away as the winner of the Tremendous Poll. He finished with 74.3 percent of the vote for a dominating win. Lake Gibson's Jammila Ray finished second with 14.1 percent of the vote.

Rounding out the top 10 are Lake Gibson's Jaidaah McQueen, Auburndale's De'Asia Abrams, Auburndale's Nehemiah Turner, George Jenkins' Georgiana Strawbridge, Lake Wales' Sevastian Rosado, Jordan Christian Prep's Deangelo Parker, Winter Haven's Dylan James and Bartow's Chance Campbell.

Voting for the Tremendous 10 poll is open until noon on Friday. Here are this week's list of nominees.

McKeel senior Jahir Villasenor (boys soccer) scored both of the Wildcats goals in their 2-1 victory over LaBelle in the 4A-3 semifinals.  For the season, Villasenor now has five goals — second on the team — and two assists.

Winter Haven senior Isaac Celiscar (boys basketball) averaged 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 10.5 assists and 2.0 steals in two games of the district tournament,

Lakeland Christian eighth-grader Brayden Gathwright (boys soccer) dribbled around some players then scored the game-winner in with just over a minute remaining in the match to defeat Legacy Charter. Gathwright was playing in just his fourth varsity game.

Lake Gibson's Elijah Lowe (wrestling) won his second IBT county title when he defeated Lakeland's Erick Vargas, 12-5, in the 116-pound weight class. Lowe is 34-10 overall this season.

Lakeland junior Derajah Hardy (boys basketball) scored 16 points in the Lakeland's 69-49 victory over Bartow in the 6A-7 district championship game.

Lake Gibson senior Samari Wilson (girls basketball) scored 27 points in the Braves' 71-53 victory over St. Cloud.

Victory senior LJ Cason (boys basketball) scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the Storm's 75-45 victory over City of Life Christian in the 2A-8 district championship game.

Lakeland Christian senior Maddie Lopez (girls soccer) scored two goals with three assists in the Vikings' two playoff wins last week. She now has seven goals and nine assists and her goal Friday night was her 70th career goal.

McKeel senior Maddi Caustic (girls soccer) scored two goals and added an assist in the Wildcats' rout of Tampa Robinson in the regional quarterfinals and finished the week with two goals and two assists.

Winter Haven freshman Aubrey Hall (girls basketball) hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points in the Blue Devils'  victory over Clearwater.
